INDICATIONS
NOOTROPIL is indicated for patients struggling with myoclonus of cortical origin, no matter aetiology, and really should be utilized in combination with other anti-myoclonic therapies.

Adults :
The dosage regime shows important interindividual variability, requiring an individualised dose finding approach. A reasonable protocol is always to introduce piracetam in a dosage of 7.2 g/day, increasing by 4.8 g/day every three to four days up to and including maximum of 20g/day, shown in either a few divided doses whilst keeping other antimyoclonic drugs unchanged at their optimal dosage. If possible, based on clinical benefit, an endeavor should be designed to subsequently lessen the dosage of other antimyoclonic drugs.

The negative effects reported in connection with Nootropil include nervousness, agitation, irritability, anxiety and sleep disturbances. The incidence of those during many studies was 5% or less and they were more regularly noted inside the older patients taking more than 2.4 g daily. In the tastes cases a dose reduction sufficed to make these symptoms disappeared. Some patients may complain of fatigue or drowsiness. Gastro-intestinal problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and stomachache have been reported, however Incidence during many studies was 2% or less. NOOTROPIL (Piracetam) is contra-indicated in patients with severe renal impairment (renal creatinine clearance of under 20 ml per minute), hepatic impairment and to those under 16 years. It is also contraindicated in patients with cerebral haemorrhage, Huntington's Chorea and in individuals with hypersensitivity to piracetam, other pyrrolidone derivatives or one of the excipients .
